Angel Burgos
First run for office in Wilton Manors
Burgos has lived in Wilton Manors since 2012 and is running for office for the first time. He is an executive director at Florida International University, where he oversees roughly 70 staff and a $20 million annual budget, after more than 30 years in higher education. He previously worked as an aide to U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman, holds an MPA from Columbia University, and has served on the boards of Funding Arts Broward, Island City Stage and Lambda Legal.
He has campaigned on housing affordability and smart growth, hiring a dedicated business development professional for the city, cutting red tape in the development process, developing underused parcels on Wilton Drive, Dixie Highway and Andrews Avenue, and holding building heights to roughly six stories based on resident input.
In his words: “I’m concerned about the number of projects and buildings that haven’t gone up. I think there’s something wrong with the process.”

In their own words
We sent every candidate in this race the same questions. Angel Burgos has not replied yet. When the answers arrive they will be published here in full and unedited, and this note will go away. Nothing above is a characterisation of the candidate's views by us — it is drawn from the sources listed in the text.
We do not endorse candidates. Every candidate in this race gets the same questions, the same space, and their answers in their own words. Something here wrong? Tell us and we will fix it.
