Kalra emigrated from India to the United States about 20 years ago and worked for Cummins in Minnesota and Indiana before moving to Wilton Manors five years ago. He has a background in non-profit and professional management. This is his first run for office.
He has campaigned on reforming code enforcement so that it educates before it fines, balancing new development against community character, and putting stalled development projects on clear timelines. His interest in code enforcement grew out of his own citations, over air conditioning unit screening and unpermitted window shutters, both eventually resolved.
In his words: “It was always the feeling inside me that I need to fix something if something is broken.”
